GKS KATOWICE - GKS STADIUM - 10,000 CAPACITY

About the Stadion GKS
The stadium has a real unfinished look with two large stands on either side of the pitch and nothing of any note at either end.  The main stand is the bigger of the two holding 7,000 fans, and offers some excellent views of the action.  The stadium was originally opened in 1953 as a basic athletic stadium with raised mud terraces.  The main stand was added in 1984 to double the capacity.

Who plays there?
The stadium is home to GKS Katowice who have recently been relegated to the second division in Poland.  They haven’t really had a history to match rivals Rucho Chorzó, but have won three Polish Cup finals – the last of which was in 1993.

How to get there
The stadium is actually nearer to the Slaski stadium in Chorzów than the centre of Katowice.  Buses run from Katowice stadium down Zlota for the stadium.  On matchdays special football buses run from 2 hours before the game.  Just to the north of the stadium you will find Zoo station that is on the main railway line between the two centres.

For a much better view of football in the region go to Footiemap.com.

Getting a ticket
Tickets for home matches go on sale a week before the game from the main office at the stadium.  On matchdays tickets can be purchased from the small kiosks around the stadium.  Tickets in the Trybuna Glowna cost 20Zloty for the central section and 15Zloty for the wings.  In the Trybuna Centralna tickets cost 8Zloty.

Getting around
Katowice is part of the greater Katowice conurbation, similar to the towns of Gelsenkirchen and Dortmund in Germany.  It is difficult to know where one starts and the other one ends.  Public transport options include trains, trams and buses.  A single ticket covers all variations – 2.40Zloty for a short journey, 3.50Zloty for a longer journey.  A day ticket costs 12Zloty.

Nearest Airport – Katowice Int Airport (KTW)

Chorzów does not have an airport of its own and so the nearest one is in the nearby town of Katowice.  The airport is used as a hub by Wizzair who fly here daily from Belfast, Bournemouth, Coventry, Doncaster-Sheffield, Liverpool, London Luton and London Stansted.  Ryanair also offer flights from Bristol and Dublin. To reach Chorzów catch one of the regular shuttle buses from the airport to the main train station which should take around 40 minutes and cost 20Zloty where you can then catch a train to Chorzów which should take less than 20 minutes.
