About the Vångavallen The Vangavallen has been home to Trelleborgs for over seventy five years although the ground was almost completely rebuilt in the 1990’s. It is now mostly seated although there is terracing at both ends of the ground, one of which is a small five step temporary terrace. The main stand is the oldest structure in the ground and dominates the local area, offering good views of the action. It is similar in design to the main stands at Bristol Rovers Memorial Ground or Lincoln City’s Sincil Bank where it only covers the middle part of the pitch. Opposite is a low covered stand with 8 rows of seats where most of the fans congregate, huddled together to protect themselves from the frequent wind and rain.
Who Plays There? Trelleborgs FF were formed in 1926 and are now in their 13th season in the Allsvenskan, the Swedish Premier League. The club have had a reputation of being a less fashionable provincial side, making the most of limited resources and a small fan base. The club's glory days arrived in the early nineties when they won promotion to Allsvenskan for the second time and finished third in 1992, the so far best placement, and fourth in 1993. In the 1994 Uefa cup the team reached the second round after one win and a draw against Blackburn Rovers. The fact that a team of amateurs eliminated an english Premier leauge-team became hot news in Europe. In the second round TFF managed to play 0-0 against S. S Lazio in Trelleborg but lost at Stadio Olimpico and was therefore eliminated from the tournament.
The club are widely tipped for relegation at the start of most seasons, but somehow seem to survive. Their brand of defensive long ball football does not win them many fans but it is effective. Big players through the years is Andreas Isaksson, Benny Mårtensson, Mats Lilienberg and Magnus Arvidsson. Benny Mårtensson scored 290 goals in 497 matches and is a legend in the club. The goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson played in TFF in the early years of his career and is now representing the Swedish national team.
