Stadium
Racing Club play at the Estadio Juan Domingo Peron, located in Avellaneda, a suburb of Buenos Aires. This bowl shaped stadium was constructed in 1950 and  can hold up to 64000 capacity. Even with the stadium only half full, the  stadium design and roof enables you to sample a fantastic atmosphere generated by passionate Racing support.

Getting to Stadium
Bus 10 , 17 , 22 , 33 , 33 , 51 , 85 , 95 , 98 , 100 , 148 , 186 , 247 , 271 , 295. (Remember to take some small coinage with you).You can also take a train from Constitucion station, stopping at Avellaneda station. Follow the crowds for about 5 minutes and you cannot miss the stadium.

Getting a Ticket. Where to sit
You will find a row of ticket booths on Avenue Italia next to stadium. Stewards outside booths will soon spot you are a tourist and most had stadium plan with them. They pointed you to  non socios booth and you buy your tickets. We asked for seats in “Platea D” , which were upper tier and tickets cost us 60 pesos (£12).

Platea seats were excellent for photos, and as match was afternoon kick-off Platea D ensure you are in shade and not watching the match with sun in your eyes.

The match not a sell out, so we could wander over to sit near the popular ends and watch the Racing Club and Huracan fans in each half. Equally entertaining off the pitch was the section of terrace directly behind the home bench. With surreal sight of  heavily armed riot police standing next to  young children of hinchas playing with tickertape, we  watched the Racing fans here perched on the moat wall that surrounds the pitch, berating manager and players alike. Crackers! (See picture below)

Club Shop
The only club shop we could find was a small portacabin  with frankly very little to sell. The street vendors that could be found in the streets surrounding the stadium, had more shirts, hats to sell. As ever you cannot vouch if any of your pesos will reach the club coffers.

Famous Former Players to Impress Locals With
Diego Simone
A defensive midfielder who became infamous in England for being involved in the sending off of David “Goldenballs” Beckham during England Argentina match in 1998 France World Cup tournament. Played 37 times for Racing in 2005-06, before retiring to manage them.

Ricardo Julio "Ricky" Villa
A brilliant midfielder who played for Racing 52 times between 1976-78. Caught the eye of Tottenham Hotspur, who took Villa and Ossie Ardiles to England. Scored one of the best ever goals at the 1981 FA Cup final, when he danced through Manchester city defence to score in replay.

After the Match. Extras
At half time go to top of stand at the back of Platea D, to see how the reconstruction of Racing’s neighbour Independiente’s stadium (Estadio Libertadores de América) is getting on. The two stadiums are literally a  few hundred metres apart.
