The Corgoň Liga is the top division of Slovak football. There are 12 teams in the competition. For an overview of who plays where in Slovakia, go to Footiemap.com to access their football map of the country.

At the end of the 2005/06 season three clubs were promoted from the Slovak Second Division, as the top division expanded to 12 clubs for the 2006/07 season.

The Slovakian Corgoň Liga was organized in 1994 once the country became independent from the former state of Czechoslovakia.

*MŠK Žilina are the current Slovak Corgoň Liga champions.  The division is named after the Corgoň brewery, which is named after a famous statue of Corgoň in Nitra.

One of the most successful teams in Slovakian football outside the capital is Spartak Trnava who play at the Stadion Antona Malatinskeho, a 18,448 capacity venue (pictured left) in the city of Trnava some 30 miles north of Bratislava.

One of the teams promoted at the end of the 2007/08 season were DAC Dunajska Streda after merging with FC Senec.  They play in the cit of Dunajska which is on the south of the country.  The basic Mestsky Stadium, pictured left, holds 16,410.

The oldest team in Slovakian football is Tatran Presov who were formed in 1898.  They play at the 14,000 capacity Tatran Stadion, pictured left, although they rarely fill it.  They have never won the league title although they did finish 2nd in the Czech League in 1965.

Fighting to keep their top flight status is FC Nitra, who play at the Stadion pod Zoborom (pictured left) which holdsd 11,385.  They finished in third place last season.
